We at Woebgon Bassets got off to a really slow start in the AKC conformation show ring in 2017. Our tragic loss of Star on January 30th has truly shocked us as well.
Finally in March we have turned the corner with perhaps our biggest show win to date. We hope that this will be the start of another good year for us and our bassets at AKC shows.

While we have won groups before this was a very special win for us because it lead to the following win.

At the May 20th GSDBHC Specialty Show Miss Sassy was Select Bitch from the Veteran Bitch Class. For those of you who aren't familiar with dog shows it is an honor for a dog to win the Veteran Class. To go on to win Select is an even greater honor. The judge, Dr. Carolyn Hensley, was astounded at the condition of our veterans and loved Sassy.
At the May 20th GSDBHC Specialty Show Caicos was Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed and Best of Breed for the AKC National Owner Handled Series. When Caicos was a puppy the judge, Dr. Carolyn Hensley, gave Caicos a two point win by awarding him Winners Dog and Best of Winners. At that time she said she was looking for a basset that she thought could perform all day in the field hunting rabbits. She still felt that way about him at the age of four.
At the May 21st GSDBHC Specialty Show Doc was Select Dog from the Veteran Dog Class. As stated for Sassy (above) it is an honor for a dog to win the Veteran Class. To go on to win Select is an even greater honor. The judge, Ms Sheila Paskey, was astounded at the condition of our veterans and loved Doc.
SPECIAL NOTE: We are thrilled with the judge's opinions for Miss Sassy and Doc at both the BHCSC and GSDBHC Specialty Shows. As breeders having dogs from our breeding to be selected like this at specialty shows is a true honor for us. It helps us to verify our breeding decisions.

AKC's National Owner Handled Series
For those who are not familiar with the American Kennel Club's NOHS here is a quote from the AKC: "To celebrate the dedication and enthusiasm of owner-handler exhibitors the American Kennel Club has created the new AKC National Owner-Handled Series. This non-titling competition will be held at select dog shows across the country. The end of year competition for the AKC National Owner-Handled Series will be held in conjunction with the AKC show in December. Dogs that finished ranked in the top ten (plus ties) for their breed during the qualifying period will be invited to compete in the competition. Dogs exhibited by professional handlers on the day of the event are not eligible for this competition."
Pam and Don would like to thank Steve & Jeffie Casey, Caicos' breeders, for allowing them to have such a wonderful boy. Thanks as well to all their friends for all their encouragement and support.
