NOTE: My original title for this article was Basset Hound Standard Myths but the editor of Sight & Scent at the time insisted on the change. The article was written because I had heard these statements regarding the AKC Standard for Basset Hounds for many years. many times I heard them from people in the breed who should have known better. Some I fear were trying to put their own feelings and thoughts into their interpretation of the Standard in hopes that they could sway others toward their way of thinking. I've even heard some of these myths repeated by licenses judges. My attempt here is to respond to these statements with actual wording from the AKC Standard.  

Over the years I've received some comments regarding my conclusion at the end of the article. Now, over ten years later, I still believe in what I said.
