They are the American Kennel Club's designated "parent Club" for basset hounds in the United States and are recognized through out the world as the authority for the breed and the written AKC Breed Standard for Basset Hounds.
Through the efforts of the parent club, the breed has proven to be a multi-purpose hound that excels in conformation, obedience, tracking, field trialing and pack hunting.
In addition to their national events the Basset Hound Club of America, Inc. has also formed a foundation to help with their mission.
